Greenrock lends a helping hand with The Redwood’s Donor Appreciation Night

Greenrock is proud to be a supporter of The Redwood, a safe haven for woman and children who are fleeing abuse, it’s a place for healing, community and fun. Greenrock, through its charitable trust and partnerships, have donated $35,000 over the past year to the organization in efforts to help them fulfill their goal of constructing a state-of-the-art healing play area in the courtyard.

Greenrock is honoured to be a partner in this transformative project at The Redwood.

Greenrock’s journey with The Redwood began during the holiday season of 2018; residents across all Greenrock properties were tasked with voting for their desired charity whereby the five charities with the most votes would each receive $20,000. With an overwhelming amount of votes and support from residents, The Redwood was a finalist and received the $20,000 holiday donation from Greenrock Charitable Trust. An additional $10,000 was donated shortly thereafter from another tenant holiday survey from Greenrock Commercial Services, and our partners in Postmedia Place, Shiplake Properties, with the building’s tenants overwhelmingly voting for The Redwood. This summer, Greenrock Charitable Trust donated another $5,000 to kick start a “fill the fridge” campaign for families that leave the care of The Redwood to receive gift cards for grocery stores to ensure they have supplies for their new life.

As a continued supporter of The Redwood, Greenrock employee volunteers recently rolled up their sleeves, arrived on site and over the course of two days, worked hand in hand with staff at The Redwood to transform the courtyard into a spectacular donor appreciation event space. After the event, Akilah Downey, Volunteer & Communications Coordinator with The Redwood, thanked Greenrock and stated that The Redwood was “able to show donors and friends exactly how they are helping women and the children live without abuse, homelessness and poverty”.


Greenrock truly believes that everyone deserves a safe space, whether it is where you live, where you work, where you play, or where you seek help in times of need. Greenrock looks forward to continuing to work with The Redwood in the future and help make a lasting impact with partnerships like this.

The Redwood offers safety, healing and opportunities for growth for women and their children fleeing abuse. Families receive case management and counseling services from Resident Services Counselors, access to empowering and life-changing programs, and transitional support when they are ready to take the steps toward a new life. Greenrock Shines at the 2019 REMI Conference

On Wednesday, June 12, the Greenrock team attended the Real Estate Management Industry (REMI) Network Tradeshow at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Greenrock employees interacted with the engaging and informative trade show, while also participating in the mid-tier builds forum, where Greenrock COO, Justin Taylor sat as a panelist.

During the mid-tier building forum, the panel covered many topics from government incentives, energy efficiencies, tenant satisfaction and long-term planning. Justin highlighted the transformations and opportunities facing mid-tier building management companies. When asked what Greenrock does well in regard to handling both tenant happiness and financial responsibilities, Justin eagerly responded;


“We have a Rockstar ethos at Greenrock, and as a result, our real estate is a place for people, not buildings. We need to look at where our costs lie, and what costs will result in efficiencies… looking to the now, see what we need for the future, but also seeing how we can achieve those goals holistically, as this truly is an integrate process.”

The REMI Show provides a platform to connect professionals in the real estate industry while delivering practical and timely information focused on keeping buildings clean, green and operating in a sustainable and energy efficient fashion. The conference weighed heavily on the focus of building operations, cleaning and maintenance, energy efficiency, sustainability and new technologies.

The Building Owners and Managers Association of the Greater Toronto Area (BOMA) hosted the 21st annual Celebration of Excellence Awards Gala on May 22 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. With recent entrance into the Canadian market, General Motors’ Maven is a new and alternative approach to ride sharing. With no membership fee, and hourly rates starting at $9 per hour, Maven is a simplified and seamless car sharing service with state-of-the-art vehicles loaded with all the latest technology.


Maven is completely app based and keyless, with every step of the rental process taking place on your smart phone. Pick up and drop off locations are all over the city, making it easy to find a car while on the go.



Zipcar has had a long-lasting presence in Toronto with a large fleet of vehicles to choose from. With membership fees starting a seven dollars per month, and hourly rates from $8 – $10, Zipcar is a traditional car sharing company that created this market space with the city dweller in mind.


With an easy “tap” from the ZipCard, you have access to their fleet of vehicles and the freedom to drive wherever, whenever you please. Rentals can range from 1 hour to up to a week in length, as many times you need in a month!



Enterprise CarShare is an automated way to rent a vehicle by the hour, the day, or overnight. A variety of makes and models are parked in your community – where you live, and where you work – and are accessible 24/7. Residents of the Greenrock communities get a special join offer. A resident can join for $10 (regularly $29 +$45 membership fee) and receive $55 in credit towards their membership or driving credits!

throughout the year — it’s important for us to not only provide high-quality housing for our residents, but to foster and build community.



It’s in that spirit that we wanted to do something different this year by putting our residents at the helm of our holiday giving program. Earlier this year, Greenrock, through the Greenrock Charitable Trust, earmarked $100,000 to be donated on our resident’s behalf and asked them to vote (online and at our six buildings across the city) on which charities they think make the biggest impact on the communities in which you live.

After the votes were counted, the list was narrowed down to five amazing organizations: Camp Oochigeas, Casey House, The Redwood, SPRINT Senior Care, and Stella’s Place, with each charity receiving $20,000 on behalf of Greenrock’s residents.


On December 17th 2018, Greenrock staff and residents gathered with representatives of each charity to facilitate these donations.


It was a great event and a fantastic opportunity to hear directly from each of these wonderful organizations about the important work they do and the impact that our donation will make on our community.
