Postmedia Place awarded 2016 Certificate of Building and Management Excellence

The Building Owners and Managers Association of the Greater Toronto Area (BOMA) hosted the 18th annual “Celebration of Excellence Awards” Gala on May 12th at the Westin Harbour Castle. Greenrock Property Management is proud to announce that Postmedia Place (365 Bloor Street East) was awarded the 2016 Certificate of Building and Management Excellence!

Over 500 real estate professionals attended the event, coming together to recognize their peers at the commercial real estate industry’s most prestigious event of the year. The award was presented by Maryanne McDonald – Chair of BOMA Toronto, Senior Vice President of Operations, First Capital Realty and Susan Allen – President of BOMA Toronto.

To be eligible for this award, Postmedia Place first had to qualify for BOMA Gold status. The building achieved Gold certification in October of 2015. This required two rigorous audits by industry peers to ensure that our Management team met the BOMA Toronto standard of building and management operations, tenant relations, and community impact (including energy and environment management and emergency preparedness and training of personnel).

This honour was achieved under the leadership of Greenrock Property Management Ltd and the outstanding management of General Manager of Postmedia Place, Alaric da Cunha.

3 easy Spring picnic ideas

3 Easy Spring Picnic IdeasThose perfect weather days, the ones we get so few of, are finally here. What better way to celebrate the season than with a picnic? The Greenrock Property Management blog team wants to help you make the most of sunshine. With your Eastbourne apartment right across from beautiful Eglinton Park, its easy to take advantage of the weather nearby. Here are a few simple and classic recipe ideas to make for your next picnic.

Old Fashioned Potato Salad

What’s a picnic without potato salad? If you have potato salad at a picnic, you’re pretty much covered, everything else is gravy — just don’t cover you potato salad IN gravy! This crowd-pleasing classic side dish is simple to prepare. If you like it a bit more on the creamy side, add a bit more mayo. If you’re watching your cholesterol, you could use egg whites only.

Sweet and Spicy Chicken

The key to a great picnic is fun comfort foods — the more you can eat with your hands, the happier you will be! This sweet and spicy chicken recipe fits the bill perfectly. It stores well in a cooler, and tastes great cold — just make sure it’s fully cooked before you leave!

Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

No picnic is complete without dessert but its best to keep things simple, portable and preferably, hand-held. You can’t go wrong with chocolate chip cookies. They can be made the night before, they travel well and don’t need to be heated to be delicious.

The whole point of a picnic is simplicity. You can forget all your troubles — your biggest problem may be a few ants, but that’s a small price to pay to forget all your worries for a little while. Spending all day in the kitchen is no picnic, so you can always just buy a few things like lemonade, watermelon, and chips and salsa to complete the meal.

Our favourite Spring ingredients and how to use them

Spring is in full swing. Flowers are blooming, birds are singing and food is sprouting up from the earth. Your friends at The Greenrock Property Management blog want to help you make the most of the seasonal ingredients available right now. Here are some recipes that highlight the best of the season’s bounty and are easy to prepare at home at Village Green.

Strawberries just make everything better. The colour, the aroma, the juicy sweetness. They’re great on their own or in a pie, but here’s a couple of ideas you may not have tried.

Fragola Pazzo (Crazy Strawberry)

As the name suggests, Fragola Pazzo is an Italian dessert may seem like a crazy combination — until you taste it. The balsamic vinegar, the chocolate and a the pepper come together in perfect harmony and bring out a flavour that is crazy delicious.

Strawberry Champagne Soup

This Strawberry Champagne Soup recipe is really more of a deliciously refreshing beverage. You can substitute the champagne with sparkling apple juice if you prefer. Try adding a sprig of fresh mint and lime juice if you want a bit of a flavour kick.

Known as a “superfood” because it packs such a nutritional punch. Spinach is chock full of vitamins K, A, B6 and C, as well as minerals like magnesium and folate. This dark, leafy green is a must have in spring time recipes. It’s available year round, but Springtime brings the brightest and most tender leaves.

Wilted Spinach Salad with Warm Feta Dressing

This Wilted Spinach Salad with Warm Feta Dressing recipe is easy to prepare and simply delicious, this warm, creamy feta dressing will make you forget you’re eating healthy.

Spinach Quiche

The weather is beautiful and warm, but sometimes you still need some comfort food. After a long day this easy-to-make Spinach Quiche really hits the spot. Try substituting ricotta or feta instead of cottage cheese, for a creamy and satisfying meal.

The celebrated asparagus stalk signals the arrival of Spring. It can be enjoyed grilled, roasted, stir-fried, in salads, and in primavera (which means “Spring”) pasta. You really can’t go wrong with asparagus. Here a few ways to use it that are sure to please.

Asparagus Tempura

Tempura is the classic Japanese appetizer — lightly breaded, fun to prepare. Serve this Asparagus Tempura with a spiced dipping sauce or teriyaki.

Asparagus Ravioli Pie

Making a meal to impress friends or family? Or maybe you just want to impress yourself? Try this Asparagus Ravioli Pie — what more do you need? The recipe calls for chicken stuffed ravioli, but pumpkin would be a sublime vegetarian substitute.

The Greenrock Property Management blog team hopes that these recipes add to the spring in your step this season. All the springtime ingredients you require are available just steps from your Village Green Apartment. The Loblaws flagship store at Maple Leaf Gardens (60 Carlton St.) is just a 5 minute walk away. It offers everything you could ever need, and more. Bon appetite!

Our guide to the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival

The Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival is on now and runs through the month of May. With more than 200 exhibitions and over 1,500 photographers and artists, this 20th Anniversary of the festival is bigger and better than ever. The city will be dripping with art and photographs – on the street, on the subway, public installations suspended from building façades and building interiors. The Greenrock Property Management blog team wants to help you navigate this beautiful and unique festival that is easily accessible from Greenrock at Davisville Village. Here are just a few suggestions to help dip your toe into the waters of the festival.

Bottom of the Lake

Bottom of the Lake is New York artist Christian Patterson’s exploration of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin — his hometown. Not simply a nostalgic look back at a place and time, Patterson’s work is an exploration of the idea of memory and the role that it plays in forming our identity.  The phonebook, in this day and age, has become an artifact representing a different time —  a time not that long ago, but a world away. For part of the piece Patterson uses his family’s’ 1973 Fond du Lac telephone directory as a kind of portal – inserting photographs, sketches and notes that connote a certain place at a certain time. The exhibition is on now through June 30th, Tuesday to Friday 11am – 5pm at the Contact Gallery (80 Spadina Ave) about a 20 min TTC trip from Davisville.

Mother of This Domain

The Internet is the basis of Aleksandra Domanović’s work. The rise of the cyber-world corresponds with the fall of her world in the former Yugloslavia. Mother of This Domain is not a dystopian warning, rather a meditation on the ways and means by which technology has become a part of us — has embodied us. It raises the question of what it means to be be an evolving human being in this age. This work is showing now through May 29th at Oakville Galleries at Centennial Square.

Art For Lounges, Lobbies and Living Rooms

Writer and artist Donna Lypchuk explores the “joy of immediacy” of creating art with a cell phone. Art For Lounges, Lobbies and Living Rooms features pieces such as “Cell Phone Turners” in which she explores photographing landscapes and cloudscapes but in a way that hasn’t been possible until we started carrying computers in our pockets. “Cherry Blossom Madness” in High Park captures the ephemeral floral explosion. Beautiful images, taken with common, modern technology with a simple retro aesthetic. You can catch it now until May 23rd at Mrs. Huizenga (28 Roncesvalles Ave) about a 25 minute drive from Davisville Village. While you’re in the neighbourhood take a trip to High Park to catch the cherries blossoming first hand (which you just saw in the photos).

The Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival is a great way to explore your city. The Greenrock Property Management blog team hopes these exhibits will inspire you to discover and enjoy all that Toronto has to offer. Starting from your Davisville Village apartment and the Davisville subway, you’re connected to it all.

The Greenrock Property Management blog team understands where you;re coming from and we are here to help. When you know that you’re ready, jump in with one of these.

The 5 minute Workout

This total body workout leaves no room for excuses. It works with whatever time you have. Even If you only have 5 minutes, the key to this workout is intensity. It’s a 5-exercise circuit. Complete each circuit, going as hard and as fast as you can for 50 seconds, then take a 10 second rest before going full intensity again into the next exercise. If you have a bit more time and a bit more energy, repeat the entire circuit 1 to 2 more times.

Build Muscle in Under 20 Minutes

Want the ultimate beach body? This high intensity muscle building workout will help you gain lean muscle and lose weight fast without a gym membership. Again, it’s all about the intensity that you put in, not the time. This one is a circuit too. Complete all the “A” exercises, then all the “B” exercises and go right into the “C” exercises. Maximum gains in minimum time — isn’t that what we’re all looking for?

Anytime, Anywhere

This is a whole body, high-intensity (there’s that word again!) bodyweight workout. No equipment or machinery required, just you and your goal, that’s all you need. This one is perfect to perform in you Greenrock apartment, take it to the park, the beach or anywhere you feel like moving freely. If you are unfamiliar with any of the moves in this workout, you can find explanations and photos here. This workout is a great way to boost your metabolism and build strength with body resistance.
