Toronto bars with killer patios

Summer in Toronto is also known as Patio Season. It seems as soon as the snow melts, patios begin popping up all over town. But it takes more than roping off a section of sidewalk to make a good patio.

Patio season is all too short-lived in Toronto. You’ll want to make the most of your time in the sun. Whet your whistle at these great Toronto bars with killer patios.

The Pilot

The Pilot is a storied haunt with an impressive history, and weekly live jazz on Saturday afternoons. The Pilot is also home to The Flight Deck, rooftop patio. It’s an enormous hang out with heaters, retractable awnings, and a capacity of 185 people. It makes for quite a party. Climb the many stairs to the land of cold drinks and sunshine above the Yorkville streets. It’s worth the climb. In fact, it was named Canada’s Favourite Patio by the Globe and Mail. Come and see why. If you’re afraid to fly, there is also a modest street level patio to enjoy.

The Pilot is not the only exceptional patio in Yorkville. If you’re looking for a bit more of a laid back, elegant vibe, head to Trattoria Nervosa (75 Yorkville Avenue). This little yellow house has served as a local meeting place for more than 20 years. There is a sunny street level patio that is perfect for people watching, but the main attraction is upstairs. The chic and stylish upper patio offers a shaded retreat, or sofa-style seating in the sun. It does get busy on the weekends, and reservations are not accepted, but they have a text system that sends you a message when your table is ready.

There is karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays inside, as well as Tuesday and Wednesday trivia nights. It has been extensively renovated recently, and offers locals and visitors alike a choice of street level sunshine, or rooftop lounging on the upper patio. This Davisville Village gem offers a great selection of craft beers, as well as an extensive wine and cocktail selection.

This place is paradise if you’re into Champions League Football, and are a Liverpool fan. The atmosphere is amazing when they’re on. It’s also the spot for Toronto FC, Leafs, Raptors and Jays. They’ve recently expanded the rooftop, year-round patio, so there is plenty of space, no matter what sports season it is.
