The best Mexican food near Davisville Village

One of the best things about living in Davisville Village is that it’s a global village. Talk a walk around the block and you can experience culture and cuisine for all over the world. The only downside is that it can be hard to know where to start. To help you enjoy new tastes, we want to share some of the best Mexican food near Davisville Village.

 1. Chacho’s

Check out Chacho’s at 234 Merton Street for authentic Mexican cuisine, quality margaritas, and ice cold imported beer, in a fun and festive environment. It may be one of the best kept secrets in Toronto. The music is fun, but not too loud. You can actually hang out and have a conversation. You should be in the mood to hang out when you come because this isn’t fast food. They take the necessary time to prepare the food properly. All of it is made on site.

Their space has been recently renovated, but they aren’t trying to be fancy. They don’t seem interested in wowing you with opulent or romantic surroundings. They just want to impress you with the food, and they will.

2. Asada Mexican Grill

Asada Mexican Grill  (809 St Clair Ave W) believes in creating an inviting environment, bringing authentic flavour, and doing it while supporting the community and a sustainable supply chain. They use hormone-free meats, and keep the produce as local as possible. At Asada, you get quality and you can customize it to create your personal favourite dish. Here’s how it works — pick your shell, pick your meat (choose from grilled steak, chicken, marinated pork, chorizo, pulled pork, Baja shrimp or vegetarian), then top it anyway you like. They offer a large selection of fresh toppings. Do it up your way.

3. Tio’s Urban Mexican

Coming to Tio’s Urban Mexican (2584 Yonge St) is like going to see family. In fact, ‘tio’ means ‘uncle’. Let the avuncular urban flavour make your meal special. The urban-style is based on traditional Mexican street food that you would find in the cities. The atmosphere at Tio’s is relaxed, homey, and inviting, and the food is delicious. They want to make you happy. If sangria margaritas and tequila make you happy, they’ve got you covered. You can choose from their authentic Mexicano or Gringo (Tex Mex). Kick back, relax with friends or a date, and enjoy the good vibes.

4. La Carnita

La Carnita  (130 Eglinton Ave E) has an undeniably cool atmosphere. It’s impressive, it’s unique. Some of the best street artists in Toronto came together to help design it, and it shows. The mission of La Carnita is to create a cool community vibe, and share the love of food, art and music. Chill out with some tacos, cold beer or cocktails, a churro or two, and groove to the mixtape soundtrack. Try the Tostada de Ceviche (tuna, guacamole, coconut milk, habanero, tomato, cucumber), or the In Cod We Trust fish tacos (cod, Voltron sauce, lime crema, pickled red cabbage, green apple & cilantro).

5. Mariachi’s Restaurant

Mariachi’s (2084 Yonge St) is a neighbourhood mainstay. Proprietor Alejandra Hernandez opened up her first restaurant in 1998. Come to enjoy the festive atmosphere, inside or out on the patio. They have all your standard favourites — from sizzling fajitas, burritos, quesadillas, and enchiladas, to more specialized dishes like the Steak Pepino, or Seafood Platter for two, with giant shrimp, scallops, and mussels.

You will leave satisfied. The portions are not huge, but they are incredibly filling. All main dishes come with rice, salad, and refried beans. It’s like getting a home cooked meal from someone who cares about you — and really knows how to cook!

Take time to experience the flavour of your neighbourhood. There is so much to discover!
